MPCT’s ‘My Poppy Run’ Challenge

As a result of Covid-19 restrictions the Royal British Legion will not be performing many of its Remembrance ideas for 2020. One of their events is a park run called ‘My Poppy Run’ which takes place virtually during Oct and Nov this year. MPCT will participate in a similar event called The MPCT ‘My Poppy Run’ which will start on Remembrance Day and will last for 14 days, allowing staff and learners to contribute to the Remembrance activities taking place across the country whilst raising essential funds for the RBL and raising awareness for its vital cause.

What are we doing?

MPCT staff and learners will be able to support this event by completing physical activities each day for the duration of the event. Activities will include walking, running, jogging, cycling or upper body exercises to allow participation for all levels of ability.

The overall mileage target during the event is 38,480 miles, which is 19,240 miles multiplied by two. The figure of 19,240 is of particular historic importance as on 1st July 1916 and during the very 1st day of the Battle of the Somme, the British Forces suffered a total of 19,240 fatalities in a single day. By reaching this target we will collectively be completing 2 miles for each of the fatalities on that day which is known for being the bloodiest day in the history of the British Army.

How can I support the event?

The support and participation of staff and learners will ensure that this event amplifies the importance of the Remembrance Day activities and to reflect on the sacrifices which have been made by so many in order to ensure our freedom. 100% of the funds raised will go to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal 2020, and you can donate via our JustGiving page by clicking here.
